196 Bà Triệu is a French-colonial house with tall shuttered windows, lime-washed walls and a staircase that turns twice before the top floor. Four studios have been made inside it, each one different, each one whole — a kitchen, a bathroom, a bed, a desk by a window.
Hoàn Kiếm Lake is twenty minutes on foot, which is the useful distance: close enough to walk back from dinner, far enough that the noise of the Old Quarter never reaches the street.
In Vietnam, streets are named after the people the country owes the most: kings, generals, poets and national heroes. Ours carries the name of Bà Triệu, Lady Triệu, who at about twenty raised an army against the Wu kingdom in the year 248 and is still honoured as one of Vietnam's great heroines. Her street runs 1.9 km straight up to Hoàn Kiếm Lake, lined with shops, two quiet pagodas and some of Hanoi's oldest family kitchens.
This is my second time here. I will come back again when I return to Hanoi. This place is excellent and the host Roxanne is extremely helpful and responsive.

I was really satisfied with the accommodation on the 3rd floor, so I also tried the 2nd floor. In comparison, the third floor is cozy and well maintained, so it feels cleaner. Also, the chassis is new, so it's quieter and the sun comes in well.
The second floor was a little more comfortable with the beds, and it was nice to be able to sleep separately from the group because there were two of them. Also, it's less tiring than the third floor because I often go back and forth. Also, the interior feels more spacious because the structure is different.
It's a place with other charms, so you can stay in the type you want.😊
Basically, it was the same host's accommodation, so there was no inconvenience. This time, he was very kind, so I also booked the first floor👍🏻

I stayed here for a couple of days with my friends I cannot recommend this place enough. The location is very accessible from the main road and easy to navigate. There were plenty of shops, restaurants, coffee shops and other places you'd want to have within a walking distance. Facilities provided are top-notch. Room is super clean with amenities provided, and we also had washing machine and dryer without an extra fee. On top of it all, the host is super friendly and always willing to help us at any time. Very recommended place.

I've stayed in many places in Hanoi, and of those at a similar price this was the cleanest — and the interior was lovely too. Plenty of places don't match their photos; this one looks exactly like them. What I liked most is how kind the host is 🥰 — she checked often whether we needed anything without us having to ask. The neighbourhood is quieter than the Old Quarter, but tidy and with lots to see; the walk around the lake was wonderful. With a lot of luggage, getting up to the 3rd floor at check-in was hard, but I was so happy with the place that I forgot all about it. I'd love to come back next time 🥰
